Driving Breast Cancer Awareness

I’ve been saving this story for the past couple weeks to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

But first, a little background:

About four years ago, we launched our Think Pink for Appliance Deliveries program. Through the program, Warners’ Stellian donates $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure – Minnesota Affiliate for every appliance delivery our two pink delivery trucks make.

The local Komen Affiliate passed along this e-mail it received from two-time breast cancer survivor and longtime local affiliate supporter Nancy:

Our washer and dryer from Warners Stellian came today and we had the GREATEST delivery guys in the world..Tom & Dave. Not only were they super good at what they do, they had nothing but wonderful things to say about their “pink truck” and their support of the Komen Foundation. We sent them on their way with sincere thanks for both their hard work…and for their wonderful comments about the Komen mission.

Nancy also took a couple pictures, and to my delight she was more than happy to share them – and more kind words – with our blog:

I am thrilled at the support you have given to our Komen for the Cure Affiliate and it’s programs,  and I send my personal thanks for all you do for the fight against breast cancer.  It was so much fun having that truck parked in front of my house!  The neighbors are still talking!

We love hearing stories like Nancy’s. Have you seen our trucks around town lately? More importantly, how do you support the fight against breast cancer?

bc-rideYou’ve probably heard of breast cancer walks to support research and treatment, but did you know that Minnesota has a breast cancer bike ride?

Now in its third year, the Hartford Breast Cancer Ride is this weekend Saturday, Aug. 7 and Sunday, Aug. 8. About 250 bicyclists will ride 110 miles to 160 miles to benefit Open Arms of MN & Susan G. Komen for the Cure® MN Affiliate.

Again this year, our Warners’ Stellian pink trucks will haul all the pit stop equipment and supplies for the Breast Cancer ride. Outside sales rep Bob Seagren, who’s been involved in the ride for the past two years, recruited Fran Stage from our receiving department and Rick Belde from our warehouse to help drive the trucks and load and unload supplies.

I love getting messages from people surprised or excited to see our pink trucks driving around town. They actually do make deliveries, and for each delivery, Warners’ Stellian donates $1 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure® MN Affiliate.

So those who purchase appliances from Warners’ Stellian will be supporting critical breast cancer research, education, screening, preliminary treatment and awareness programs through a portion of their delivery cost. Pretty cool, huh?

Since December 2008, the two eye-catching pink trucks have made approximately 7,600 deliveries, spreading their message of hope over miles of Minnesota  roadways and gaining exposure by traveling to events like the Breast Cancer Ride.

Thanks to all those who participate in this great cause! We’re especially proud of the personal involvement of our employees.
