Meet DIY Network’s ‘Rehab Addict’ this Wednesday

February 21, 2011

Nicole Curtis works on the Lyndale House during this season of DIY Network's "Rehab Addict."

Don’t be fooled by her frame.

She might be petite, but star of DIY Network’s “Rehab Addict” Nicole Curtis shows old homes who’s boss.

Read more about the local Realtor, investor and single mom in this Sunday’s Star Tribune article ‘A Jill of all trades.

This season, Nicole Curtis takes a 1916 Arts and Crafts-style home in the Tangletown neighborhood of Minneapolis from unlivable to unbelievable (trust me, I’ve walked through it).

And this Wednesday, Feb. 23 at Warners’ Stellian Edina (across from the Galleria), she’ll use her experience fixing and selling home to teach you the best ways you can improve the resale value of your own home. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.

After her presentation, you can meet Nicole and ask your own questions. We’ll also see scenes from the next week’s episode, which features Nicole appliance shopping at Warners’ Stellian.

Plus, eat well with Hors d’œuvres from D’Amico & Sons and of course, drinks too.

We’re so excited, and it’s free, so we hope you can join us!

A chance to star on DIY Network

December 9, 2010

OK, so maybe we didn’t exactly star, but the past two mornings, Warners’ Stellian has been working with crews shooting footage that will air in two episodes of DIY Network’s “Rehab Addict,” which airs Thursday nights at 9 with new episodes beginning Jan. 20. (See our photos on Facebook.)

Joe Warner and Nicole discuss steam laundry. It's a big deal.

The rehab addict herself, Nicole Curtis, is fixing up a big old house in the Tangletown neighborhood of Minneapolis, for which she came and picked out some appliances at Warners’ Stellian-Edina on Tuesday.

Nicole selected all Frigidaire appliances:

The production crew films Dave and Brian placing the Frigidaire 36" gas range in the kitchen.

Our crews delivered her selections Wednesday to a beautiful custom kitchen of white, solid-wood cabinetry, marble countertops, an apron front sink (etc., etc., etc.).

Our delivery guys Dave and Brian truly enjoyed being in front of the cameras and shared some laughs with the production crew, as well.

Nicole will be holding an educational-type event at a Warners’ Stellian showroom in the next couple months, so stand by!

September 13, 2010

Note: Tell me why you’d like to go to AIA-MN’s Homes By Architects Tour in the comments by 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 for a chance to score a pair of tickets. I’ll probably choose at random, unless someone writes a super good comment.

I’m in love with the kitchen from the Star Tribune’s September Home of the Month (see the photo gallery).

The article talks about how the homeowners worked with Nguyen Architects to open up their fixer-upper Lake Minnetonka home, including adding priceless views to their “cave-like kitchen”:

The most dramatic improvement is that Jen can look at the lake through massive picture windows while she chops veggies.

I guess that’s the benefit of working with an architect (and living on Lake Minnetonka) — changing a sore spot into a functional, thoughtful and of course, beautiful, space.

Report: Best remodel projects to invest in

October 8, 2009

Homeowners planning a remodel who also want to sell their house in the future might consider choosing a project based on its potential impact on the home’s resale value.

KARE 11 ran a story last night following Remodeling Magazine’s Cost vs. Value report, which collected data on remodeling projects in areas like Minneapolis and compared the cost of the project against the cost recouped in resale value.

Remodeling Magazine's Cost vs. Value Report named a wooden deck addition as the project with the best return in the Minneapolis area.

Remodeling Magazine's Cost vs. Value Report named a wooden deck addition as the project with the best return in the Minneapolis area.

A wooden deck addition topped the list, with 81.8% of the project’s cost recouped, followed by vinyl siding replacement at 80.7% recoupment.

A minor kitchen remodel (about $21,000) came in third, with 79.5% costs recouped.

But Jason Fabio of Ispiri Design Build Remodel told KARE the kitchen remains your best bet if you can only pick one room to invest in.

Fabio and other remodelers say transforming a kitchen continues to give the best bang for the buck come re-sale time.

“Everyone likes to gather in a kitchen. So on a smaller kitchen we’re expanding those so people can gather. So we don’t have that capacity problem,” Fabio added.

Both a deck addition and a kitchen remodel affect spaces where family tends to spend a lot of time, so they’re good choices whether you’re eager to move or you want to be able to enjoy the space for years to come.

Fabio and the other remodelers interviewed belong to Minnesota’s chapter of National Association of Remodeling Industry (NARI), of which Warners’ Stellian is a platinum-level sponsor. NARI is a not-for-profit organization that promotes ethical and sound business practices within the industry. Choosing a NARI member for a remodel is a must for securing the investment in your project as it is committed to protecting the rights of its customers — the nation’s homeowners.
