José T, I wasn't really the one asking so I made my best guess as to what I would say. Thanks for the better suggestion!

My friend would explain my interest in their refrigerator, but they certainly thought I was strange. So at least that was a constant in our cultures ;)

The title should be more like "Can I look inside your refrigirator?"?

If so it would be something like "Posso ver o frigorífico?", and I must say that that sounds crazy/weird if you don't make a prior introduction of the reasons why you wan't to do such a privacy invasive act.

Unless the owners tells you to help yourself from the fridge (beer, olives, butter, etc.) and most times they tell you the exact shelf so you don't go sniffing around every part of they food supplies.

Also appliances are not cheap and regular houses are not that big so it must fit all in smaller spaces.

It does use more energy for sure! I try to do the same as you in the summer -- I love the smell of line-dried clothes!

Oh shoot, I didn't realize that appliances were so private...I know everyone thought I was very strange when I would ask to see their refrigerators, etc. -- but now I know why! My friend explained for me in the various native tongues, but I have no idea what she was saying. Probably something like, "Excuse my rude American friend. She sells refrigerators."

And that's part of the reason we are such energy hogs here in the US - last year our dryer broke in the Spring and I didn't replace it until November. Saved loads of money on bills. I'm planning to tell the kids it's broken again in the summer.
How did it go looking into people's refrigerators? I remember being quite shocked on moving to the US, to find that dinner guests would actually open my refrigerator and look in it. We regarded the refrigerator as a private "family & close friends only" thing in the UK.
